This artwork represents one of the most complex conceptual journeys I have embarked upon. The process of arriving at this final composition was intricate—much like crafting a film—with a narrative arc that unfolds through an introduction, an interval, and a climax.
At its core, External Aesthetics seeks to capture a fleeting yet profound moment—a moment of visual excitement, emotional resonance, and aesthetic divinity. The painting is an abstract recreation of the overwhelming sensory experience I felt while witnessing the Poo Pallakku Oorvalam—the grand floral palanquin procession of Goddess Madurai Meenakshi.
While this festival is deeply rooted in religious tradition, what struck me most was not its ritualistic aspect but the sheer artistic grandeur: the craftsmanship, the floral abundance, the collective dedication to creating something visually and sensorially transcendent. I perceived this as the purest purpose of art—to elevate, to evoke, to immerse.
Every dot symbolizes a flower.
Every origami fold represents a petal.
Every color captures the intangible fragrance of flowers.
Every line is a thread binding these elements together.
Every pattern becomes a garland meticulously arranged in the spirit of Meenakshi Amman—the fish-eyed, green-sapphired, three-breasted goddess, gracefully adorned, holding her seductive green parrot, moving through the streets in her richly crafted floral palanquin.
This piece is my deep dive into the floral universe—an attempt to distill that ephemeral moment of beauty and celebration into a timeless visual language.
